What is an employment class action lawsuit?

A class action lawsuit is when a group of similarly-situated employees sue an employer for violating workplace rights. The employee group (or "class") is represented by a single employee, who brings the lawsuit to court.

Some examples may include:

One person representing a group of workers who are misclassified as "independent contractors"
One person representing a group of workers who do not receive overtime wages

What do I do if I am a part of a class action lawsuit?

If you are a member of the represented class, please refer to the correspondence you received regarding the lawsuit. It will have instructions on how to proceed if you would like to be involved, or not be involved. It will also have the contact information of the attorney handling the lawsuit, who will be able to provide more specific answers and assistance.
